Caroline Lezny is an American playwright and director based in London, UK. She completed her MFA in Writing for Stage and Screen at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and her BA in Film, Television & Theatre and English at the University of Notre Dame.
Caroline is passionate about feminist retellings and boldly theatrical, challenging contemporary work. She has developed a body of work inspired by social and historical research that includes work for theatre, film, television, and digital production.
Caroline is a member of the Royal Court Theatre's 2025 Playwriting Group. Her debut play Scarlet Underground was on the shortlist of 35 scripts selected for the Theatre503 International Playwriting Prize (2023) and was a top 12 selection for the Jermyn Street Theatre’s Woven Voices Prize (2023). Other work has been recognized by the Alpine Fellowship (2025), Theatre503 (2025), the All3Media New Writers Collective (2025), and the Academy Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting (2021). Her writing has been presented at the Other Palace Theatre, Lion & Unicorn Theatre (ChewBoy Productions), and workshopped at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (Masterclass).
Caroline undertakes regular work as a script consultant including an attachment at San Diego State University for the MFA Musical Theatre Program’s bi-yearly New Musical Initiative. She is a faculty member at the University of Notre Dame’s London campus in the department of Film, Television & Theatre. Recent directorial projects include William Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, William Finn's musical A New Brain, and a showcase scene study on Tony Kushner's Angels in America.
